Ok, I don't know if you heard but a lot of women and gamers are raging about the "fake gamer girl".
I've read plenty of views, watched YT videos on the subject, dug through twitter - Facebook - tumblr, looking though pages of rage or bashing.
Recently, there has been an surge of anger from the women side because of this FB post --->

www.youtube.com/watch?feature=…I have two perspectives. One as a gamer and another as a female.
As a woman:
Women have made a big push in the gaming industry, but it is still ruled under a man's perspective.
Booth babes, skimpy outfits, distorted views of women, sexism.
Let's say a woman wanted to cosplay as her favorite super heroine, let's say it's Super Girl: simple right?
robot6.comicbookresources.com/…Pretty cute!!
here's a cosplay of it
www.omega-level.net/wp-content…not bad! I bet she made it herself too!
Now, I bet some people would call her a fake because she wanted to show off her body.
What's up with that huh? She looks pretty legit
What about this one?
files.g4tv.com/images/blog/200…She doesn't seem as legit cause she's all sexified. Check out those fishnets! Were those a part of Supergirl's costume?
The thing is: Some women are in fact a legit geek and some may be in fact just doing it for the attention and popularity of geek culture.
American culture works as such: A group of elite fashionistas get together in a room and decide on what is going to in style. They then send adverts and styles working with their ideas. Then word gets out that this certain this is an icon and a must have! Then it spreads and everyone is enveloped until the new fashion statement comes out. For example, let's say stunna shades are in season. So they put these ugly ass glasses on models. They appear in magazines then on T.V. then in movies then on the internet then before you know it everyone is wearing stunna shades.
This happened to the geek culture. I remember a few years ago when I was in high school and I was watching the Today show. They were showing off styles that were great to wear and it all happened to be "chic geek". Geek had turn into a style. Soon I saw products with "I <3 Geeks" stiched on them, then people started wearing horn rimmed glasses, then before I knew it I wasn't considered a geek because I wasn't stylized as one.
It was only rational to see these women who eat game controllers as fake because their only doing it for the popularity bandwagon.
I'm not angry that I'm told to go make my male counterpart a sandwich. I just kick his ass.
As a gamer:
I'm appalled that it has gotten to this. I myself have been guilty of being an elitist because of this big movement. The idea of being pushed out my own "clique", if you will, is uncomfortable. The very same people who claim themselves as a nerd/geek for the purposes of fitting in are the ones who made me feel ashamed of being who I am.
If you are not actually interested in those things, why fake it to fit in? Why not find what interests you instead of invading other's just so you don't feel left out. I've been left out my whole life and now I feel suffocated.
You're more then welcome to join the fun, it's the fact that you say you like it but you've never played it or read it.
"Oh yeah I totally love pokemon!"
"Really? My favorite is swoobat and gengar! What's your's?"
"That yellow rabbit
"
"oh. what's it's name?"
"psh, I don't know :/ "
It's pikachu godammit.
Final point: If you like something, cool. If not, why are you here?
